Aternos servers will be deleted if they aren't used for several months. This article will explain why this happens and how you can protect your server data, such as your world, from being lost.
Why does Aternos delete inactive servers?
Aternos provides millions of players worldwide with free Minecraft servers. Running this service comes with significant costs, so we need to make sure our resources are used efficiently.
If a server hasn't been started for a longer time (typically around 3 months), we assume it's no longer needed and delete it to free up resources. If you linked an email address to your account, you will be notified several days in advance so you can prevent the deletion if you still want to keep your server.
How can I keep my server?
The easiest way to keep your server is to use it. As long as your server is started regularly, it won't be deleted. If you receive an email warning you about an upcoming deletion, simply start your server at least once before the deadline. You don't even need to join — just pressing the Start button is enough.
How to protect my server data?
If you don’t plan to use your server for a while, create a backup and delete the server from your account. Backups are stored in Google Drive and are completely free. Learn how to enable backups here.
If your server is deleted and you don't have any backups or have lost access to your account, your data cannot be recovered. Our support team is also unable to restore deleted servers.
Please do not contact support in these cases.
