Due to various reasons, we can't provide you with FTP access and full file upload capabilities for plugins and mods at Aternos. In this article, we'll offer more insights and present you with alternatives.
Why can't you upload custom plugins/mods/modpacks?
Aternos is a free hosting service that powers servers for millions of users worldwide. To keep this possible, your server only runs when someone is actively using it. If we allowed custom plugin and mod uploads, users could potentially bypass our automatic shutdown system and keep their servers running 24/7. This would go against our concept of keeping servers free for everyone and could eventually make that impossible.
There's another important reason: Custom mods and plugins could contain malicious code like crypto miners or other harmful software. While your server runs in a protected environment, we minimize this risk on our platform by preventing custom file uploads.
If you need to upload custom files and mods, we recommend
trying
exaroton.com
our
paid hosting platform.
exaroton gives you full file upload capabilities,
more advanced features, and complete control over your server. Developed
and run completely by the Aternos team!
What files can you upload?
You can upload many files to Aternos without restrictions. These include:
- Datapacks
- Resource packs
- Addons for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition
- WorldEdit schematics
- Config files for several mods and plugins
- And much more
Just try uploading your files. Our system will automatically let you know if they're allowed or if there are any issues. If you're unsure whether a specific file type is supported, feel free to attempt the upload—there's no penalty for trying.
FTP access
Aternos doesn't provide FTP (File Transfer Protocol) access to your server files. This limitation works together with our upload restrictions to maintain the security and fairness of our free service. Additionally, FTP is an outdated protocol with security vulnerabilities. We've decided not to implement it on Aternos to keep your server as secure as possible.
