In this article, we'll show you how to easily upload a Minecraft map to your Aternos server, whether it's a pre-made adventure or your custom-built world, so you can explore it with friends in just a few simple steps!
How to upload a world to your Minecraft server:
-
Prepare your world
You can upload your world either as a .zip archive or by selecting the folder directly from your computer.
- As a folder: Ensure the world folder contains essential files like level.dat and region folders.
- As a .zip file: Alternatively, compress the entire folder into a .zip file, including all subfolders and files. -
Upload the World
Navigate to the worlds page on your Aternos dashboard. Click on Upload and select either the folder or .zip archive of your world. Choose the file from your device and press the upload button in your file manager.
The upload may take a few minutes, depending on your internet speed and the size of the world file. -
Start the server
Start your server to load your custom world. Once it’s up and running, join the server and make sure everything looks good.
Troubleshooting:
The selected file/folder is not a valid world:
This error message can occur for several reasons. Here are a few of them:
- Missing files: It is possible that you are trying to upload a folder or zip file that is missing some important files. Please check if your world contains all the necessary files mentioned in this article.
- Wrong world type: This error occurs if you try to upload a Minecraft: Bedrock Edition world to a Java Edition server or a Java Edition world to a Bedrock Edition server. To fix the issue, you can only convert worlds from Bedrock to Java using the following link: https://chunker.app/.
Folder upload does not work:
On some devices or older browser versions, uploading a bare folder may fail. To avoid this issue, try uploading the world as a ZIP file instead.
World uploads are limited to 1 GB for technical reasons. If your world is bigger than that, you could try to decrease your world's size by removing unused chunks using a program like MCASelector.
